Are you a Christina or an Emma?

“Christina waved a hand-her nails were perfect, shining ovals, where Emma’s were ragged from sparring and training.”

The Dark Artifices, Lady Midnight

I have a confession to make… I have been slightly obsessed with my nails since September 2017. My nails suck; they are thin, weak and peeling. I do remember them not sucking quite so much when I was in high school but alas, years of abuse have caught up with me. We can’t all fight demons and still, have extraordinary nails like Christina in The Dark Artifices. I suppose I’m more of an Emma in that aspect.  Continue reading “Are you a Christina or an Emma?”

Train Like a Shadowhunter

“The sky above the ocean was streaked with the pink and rose of sunset. Emma slowed from a run to a jog, gasping, her heart pounding in her chest.

Usually Emma trained in the afternoon and evening and ran in the early morning, but she’d woken up late after staying up nearly all night with Christina.”

When I finally surfaced from reading Lady Midnight the only thing I wanted to do was go to the gym.

The Dark Artifices: Lady Midnight

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

The long awaited first book in Cassandra Clare’s new shadowhunter series has finally made its appearance after such a long, agonizing and grueling 2 year wait (cue the violins.)

I’ll admit I was initially put off by how Clare used the the sixth book of The Mortal Instruments series, City of Heavenly Fire, to jump start a new series. Though as we slowly approached the launch date any feelings I may have had in the past have been subtly replaced with an excited anticipation for the series. In all actuality the Blackthorn family captured my undivided attention when I first met them 2 years ago. Their diamond strong family bond resonated deep within my soul plus the intriguing character, Mark Blackthorn, interested me a great deal.

Nourishing Brow and Lash Serum

Eyebrows are a defining feature – there is no negotiating on that point. If you have come into this post thinking this could be an overnight miracle then I’m afraid you have come to the wrong place. Nothing can grow your eyebrows back overnight but with patience and dedication, you can begin to get your eyebrows back on track in 6 months. Regrowing your eyebrows is a slow and agonizing journey that needs to be undertaken if your brows are in need of rehab.

If you have a disposable income you may be lured into buying the expensive creams marketed towards softening the fine lines around your eyes, mouth, and forehead. Those creams may indeed soften those lines but they cannot compare to full, well-groomed brows. A nice set of brows can take years off a face.

If you don’t have full eyebrows naturally, don’t fret! Not every woman is as well endowed as say… the lovely leading lady of The Mortal Instruments Lily Collins. Even though I thought Collins was too beautiful for the role of Clary Fray I did appreciate the dead on style. Clary would never apply a ton of makeup or even a little for that matter, she is always bloodstained, sweaty and crying. At the end of the day, Collins was, in fact, a solid choice since great eyebrows were an absolute must for whoever took up the role of Clary. Her eyebrows are stunning and from what I read she rarely needs to put a product in them. Collins has the kind of eyebrows that will make her entire face look absolutely great without makeup. As a woman, isn’t that what we strive to achieve more often than not?

Clary’s Super-Sweet Coffee

“She tore a bun apart, savoring the rich savory-salt taste of the pork, the chewiness of the white dough. She washed it down with a swig of black super sweet coffee.” – City of Bones

“She took a sip – no milk and lots of the sugar, the way she liked it.” – City of Ashes

Although I have only just finished reading City of Bones and City of Ashes I can already tell you, Clary love’s black coffee sweetened with lots of sugar – and it sounds utterly divine.  I am not a big hot coffee drinker, I prefer tea, but I absolutely love iced coffee. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind hot coffee and it doesn’t taste bad… so long as it has been sweetened with plenty of sugar. There is just something so delightful about an iced coffee on a hot summer day than an iced tea. Continue reading “Clary’s Super-Sweet Coffee”
